We are always looking for people who are interested making a difference within our community. We are a group with very diverse interests and backgrounds and are always excited about sharing this experience with others.

Sign-up If you are interested in volunteering with NVN, please e-mail us at nvn@learnlink.mcmaster.ca. Please write "volunteering" in the subject field of your
e-mail.

What our volunteers do

  • create, organize and run workshops for schools and community groups
  • help plan and participate in awareness events such as guest speakers, film festivals..
  • become involved in fundraising initiatives
  • gain valuable experience and have a great time!

Time commitment

We are very flexible to our volunteers' schedules.

We meet weekly during the school year to organize our workshops and events.

We typically run about 1-2 workshops a week, however, they are scheduled according to the availability of our volunteers.

Because most of us are students, we are highly conscious of timing of exams and midterms.

Training

We are planning on running one training session of about 8 hours at the beginning of each semester (late September and January). Those who sign up will be notified of these dates and asked to RSVP.

Topics covered during the training session will include:

  • group dynamics/consensus decision making
  • workshop topics and activities
  • the psychological aspects and of violence
  • how to work with youth in a workshop setting

Need 40 hours of volunteer work for high school?

NVN is a great opportunity for high school students to become involved in our organization and expose themselves to university life.

Volunteers will be in a position to gain valuable experience related to event organization and group facilitation. High school volunteers will also build upon their group dynamic and leadership skills and expose themselves to a wide range of issues related to conflict.

It is always a possibility for high school students to facilitate a workshop in their own school. Please ask us for more details!
