Nonviolence Now is committed to raising awareness of issues related to conflict management, with especial attention to issues of discrimination and violence. Through our workshops and awareness events we strive to empower people to make positive change in their own community.
By using lessons from teaching on nonviolence by people like Gandhi, Desmond Tutu, Hannah Arendt, groups such as the Children's Peace Movement of Columbia, and UNESCO's "A Culture of Peace" Initiative, we desire to expose people to the benefits of responding positively to conflict and seeking to address its underlying roots, such as poverty, privilege, or environmental issues.
Please see our "history", "our members", and "our partners" pages above for more information.
Operation Nonviolence Now is a non-profit organization which operates as a "working group" of the Ontario Public Interest Group (OPIRG) at McMaster University. Our operation is based entirely on volunteers and donations. For more information on OPIRG working groups, please follow this link, http://opirg.org/mcmaster/WG_directive.htm.
